Planning and Scheduling Your Year
Hello, my Krafty Planner Pals! Today is the second post in my Planner Organization Blog Series.
I’ve gotten a lot of feedback and I’m so happy you’re all enjoying this series! Last week we talked about How To Choose and Set Up Your Planner for the New Year.
Today we’re going to work on Planning and Scheduling the Year Ahead. So grab your planner so you can work along with me and let’s get started.
If you haven’t decided on which planner you want to use, you can use a piece of paper for now and then transfer everything when you do have your planner.
Planning and Scheduling your year ahead
I really hate to say it but, the new year is only a few weeks away and even though it can seem intimidating, it’s really only another new month when it comes to your planner.
Once you have your planner set up, you’ll want to start adding everything you already have scheduled for the year ahead.
I like to have my new planner set up and ready to go by mid-October. I take my Nana to all of her doctor’s appointments and some of them are scheduled out 6 months in advance so I need to be able to keep everything organized.
Here’s a look at my process for getting everything recorded when I start a new planner.
Collect your schedule information
Before we get to writing everything down, you need to collect all of your relevant scheduling information. Think about your priorities and responsibilities. What are the most important things you need to remember?
Here are a few things to help you get the ball rolling…
Holiday’s and special events
Birthdays and anniversaries
Vacation plans
Health appointments already scheduled
Due dates for bills and payments you want to remember
Community events you want to remember
Your work schedule
Your spouse’s work schedule
Children’s school and activities schedule
Home maintenance schedule
Moon cycles
Anything else you need a reminder for
Schedule all relevant info in your planner
Now that you have everything collected, you’ll want to record all of the relevant information into your planner.
Make sure that anything important or that may impact your life is scheduled and noted in your planner. Don’t forget to make any notes or record any ideas you need to remember for the appointment/event.
Record any known tasks in your planner by month
The last thing you need to work on today is to list out all of your recurring tasks and add them to your planner.
Think about your recurring monthly tasks. Take a few minutes and add them to your calendar or monthly task list. I do not recommend using a yearly task list, as it can become overwhelming and tasks can get lost in the mess over time.
NEXT STEPS…
Continue collecting this type of information and add it to your planner as soon as you can so you don’t forget. Record all new appointments and events right away.
Next week we are going to work on setting up new routines and habits for using your planner see you then!
