Christmas Home Tour 2023

Today I have something way out of the ordinary for the Krafty Planner and out of my comfort zone haha. A Christmas Home Tour!

I started in the front room where my Nana spends most of her time. She has a couple of pretty Christmas pillows that I added to her couch along with the cute little bear.

It might just be me but I love the pop of red on the dark couch.

I found a small 4-foot tree for $5 at our local Dollar Tree, which is perfect for her small table by the window and when you drive by the house it looks full-size because of the height of the table.

I used a silky, floral print tablecloth as a tree skirt and some small red, white, and silver bulbs as decorations.

She had a small tree from the dollar store and then I added some cute penguin and Santa figurines to her window sill.

The Santa on the floor came from QVC way back in the 90’s. It was the first thing I ever bought from them and it was definitely worth the money.

His head and arms move, the candle lights up and it plays a few different Christmas Carols. He’s a little squeaky but it still works!

It does seem like his jacket shrunk a little bit though which I don’t really understand since it’s never been removed. Maybe he gained a few pounds from all the cookies on Christmas Eve. 😊

My mom had a huge collection of Dickens Christmas Village pieces and now that she’s passed, I have all of them in my basement. There must be 30-40 of them down there plus trees, people, benches, street lights and so much more.

I picked through the boxes, found some of my favorites and scattered them throughout the house. I could hear her yelling at me when was unpacking them… “Maria! Don’t break them!!!” but I think she would be really happy that I was using them.

Nana picked the school house and St. Mary’s Cathedral to have in her room but she turned the church to the side so she could see the stained glass windows. I added the tree but can’t find the little lights that go in the holes for it to light up.

The kitchen is my favorite! I found a few trees and some carolers for the counter then four more houses and the clock tower for the window sill.

The carolers don’t light up but it is a music box — my parents loved the holidays and they had so many Christmas decorations. I gave some of them to my daughter but kept a lot of it, including all of the village.

She was going to pick out a few houses that she wanted but hasn’t had a chance so I was thinking I would pick out 4-5 nice ones and give them to her.

Isn’t the clock tower beautiful!

My mom had this little tree at the nursing home with her and they gave it to us when we picked up her things. It had the plaid stocking on it when they gave it to me so I added a few matching bows from The Dollar Tree and a small star to the top.

We had this small stuffed Santa since the 70’s. I was never allowed to play with it lol so that’s probably why it’s lasted so long. I’m afraid to wash it and don’t want the baby to play with it so I put it up on the washer with the tree and a small ceramic Santa my mom painted many years ago.

Finally is the back room where I hang out most of the time and where the kids play during the day.

I put four more houses from the village on the mantle, added a couple of Santa’s and a picture of my daughter when she was about ten ice skating at Rockefeller Center in NYC.

I just found the pretty “There’s no place like Home for the Holiday’s” sign at Aldi’s yesterday. It looked good when I hung it up but now that I’m looking at it in the photo it needs to be a bit higher and a little to the left.

I’m not sure where I found the Santa on the left but he has an open space in the back for a votive candle or a light. The Santa on the right, sitting on a bench with the Christmas tree was purchased from one of those home decor parties back in the early 2000’s. He’s one of my favorite decorations and I try to put it out every year.

Finally is our tree. I wanted to put it in the corner by the fireplace but that’s where I have all of the kids toys so it landed here by the stairs.

I think it worked out perfectly though because I hung the stockings on the coat hooks haha.

My daughter painted the snowman for me about ten years ago and that’s another one of my favorite decorations. She’s so talented - humble mom brag 😊.

I usually buy or make a new ornament every year but this year the funeral home sent us this beautiful glass ornament in memory of my mom. It has a beautiful sentiment engraved with her name and the years. It’s really beautiful and so very thoughtful of them.

Thank you so much for joining me today and I hope you enjoyed this little Christmas Home Tour 🎄

There are a few other things we have around the house and I have a beautiful ceramic nativity set with a manger that we did not have a place to set up this year. Maybe next year 😉
