Free Printable: Solar Eclipse Worksheets

Free Printable Solar Eclipse Worksheet — Krafty Planner

Everyone is talking about the Solar Eclipse next month on April 8, 2024 and we are in the direct path of totality. I am so excited! Schools are closed, businesses are closing early, grocery stores are shutting down, everything. All the hotels in the area are sold out and people are coming from all over to see this once-in-a-lifetime event.

If you live anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere you’re likely to experience some degree of darkness for a period of time.

Please note that it's extremely important to never look directly at the sun, even during an eclipse when it’s completely covered by the moon.

Our local library, Chamber of Commerce, and a couple of other places are giving away free glasses that will allow you to look at it and watch it happen live. I have seen some glasses at a local gas station for $3.99 but I would rather get the free ones 😂.

Since we’re directly in the path I wanted to know more about when to start watching so I went to the NASA website to get some more info and was blown away by what I found.

If you click here: 2024 Total Eclipse: Where and When - NASA you will find the map in the photo below.

Enter your zip code and click play. There will be a pop-up playing a simulation of what you will experience during the eclipse. I put a little red dot so you can see where I’m located. Be sure to click the 60x speed or it will take over an hour. You can even click on any area on the map to see what they will experience. It’s very cool!

okay… go try it, right now and then come back for the printable 😊

Eclipse Path of Totality Map - NASA

Did you try it? So cool right?

Okay onto the printable…

I wanted to make a fun printable for the kids so they will have something to remember the experience but I also wanted to make something a little more elegant for you to add to your planner. Of course, you can choose whichever you want.

Plus there are full-size and half-size versions of each one!

The questions are the same on both sheets and pretty basic but I think it’s just enough. Here’s a look:

  • Name

  • Age

  • Date (one has the date written and one doesn’t)

  • Where I watched the eclipse from…

  • Who I watched the eclipse with…

  • The eclipse looked like…

  • What I will remember the most…

I’m not sure how it will work but I will try to take a couple of photos during the eclipse and share them with you after.

SUPPLIES I RECOMMEND FOR PRINTING

A PRINTER

If you’re going to be printing in color, I really recommend investing in an HP Instant Ink-compatible printer. The quality of the finished product is amazing! If you don’t need a color printer, I highly recommend a laser printer like the Brother L23 Series. You will save hundreds on ink. You can also get a color laser printer which I would LOVE to have!

PAPER

For everyday printables, planners, and coloring pages for the kiddos I normally use Hammermill Printer Paper, 20 Lb. I love that you can get a small box of 3 reams instead of having to buy one at a time or a whole case of 10.

If I want something a little nicer, I use this laser paper which is incredibly smooth and has very little to no ghosting on the other side. This is perfect if you like to use pens/markers that are prone to bleeding through to the other side.

For printing on A5 paper, I use this Blank 6-Hole Punched A5 Paper. You can also get it without the holes but it’s $6-7 more. Which I think is odd because it’s usually the other way around and you have to pay more for the hole punching.

If you're printing a binder cover that is fade-resistant and lasts a long time, I would recommend the best paper using Epson Presentation paper. It's heavy like cardstock (48 lb), is great when laminated, and is made to last for decades.
